                                Top Newsmakers

                                             ROB FORD

It was his name that you heard on every major magazine, newspaper, News channel, etc... As details of an alleged drug use swirled across various media sources, we covered our faces in shame, wondering when all the drama was going to end. But when its all said and done, we've got to give the Ford brothers and family credit for sticking together. Who else can be dragged down the proverbial mud and still come out on top with relatively high public approval ratings? Only Ford.. Gotta love this guy no matter what.

                       NELSON MANDELA

There are no words fit enough to describe a man who was indeed a giant in his native homeland of South Africa and in the world at large. Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 into the Madiba clan. After losing his father age of 12, Mandela would continue to grow in strength and wisdom. He completed his BA degree at the University of South Africa, and obtained a 2 year diploma in law which allowed him to practice law. In August 1952, he and his colleague, Oliver Tambo opened South Africa's first black law firm. As a freedom fighter, Mandela would become one of the most popular figures in leading the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa in efforts to eradicate the many injustices of white minority rule. On July 11, 1964 Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment for issues relating to his involvement in the movement against apartheid and was released on February 11, 1990. He died on December 5, 2013 in his home after a long battle with a lung infection and was given a formal state funeral in Pretoria, South Africa. The monumental occasion of his funeral was marked by the attendance of thousands of people and scores of dignitaries from all around the world.
Nelson Mandela's famous quote:
"If our expectations – if our fondest prayers and dreams – are not realised, then we should all bear in mind that the greatest glory of living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time you fall." ~ Nelson Mandela at a reception hosted by President Bill Clinton at the White House, Washington DC, USA, 22 September 1998

                           JUSTIN BIEBER

Justin Bieber was steady in the headlines in 2013.  Several accusations were levied against him- some of which include  attacks against paparazzi, allegations that he spit on eager fans from his hotel room balcony, and speculation of drug use after a stunt gun and marijuana were found on his tour bus. Some of the negative media surrounding Bieber were so trivial in nature especially the frenzy and nonsensical outrage over pictures of the young entertainer touching the Stanley cup with his bare hands. Despite all the bad media in 2013, Justin's "Beliebers" were thrilled with the announcement that he had reunited with previous girlfriend: Selena Gomez.

                                 ANGELINA JOLIE

Known for her ravishing beauty, on screen prowess and humanitarian efforts, Angelina Jolie made big headlines in 2013 when she opted for a double mastectomy after being told by doctors that she had an 87 percent chance of having breast cancer and 50 percent chance of ovarian cancer. Dr Jay Orringer, the plastic surgeon who performed the mastectomy has applauded Jolie's decision for surgery because he believes her choice to undergo the operation has saved many other women's lives who will follow in her footsteps.

THE BIRTH OF A PRINCE

The Prince of Cambridge was welcomed into the world on July 22, 2013 after what would become one of the most highly anticipated baby arrivals of our time. The Royal baby was born in London at St. Mary's Hospital where a multitude of people gathered outside with gifts, flowers, cards and well wishes. Among the highlights of the baby frenzy are reports that many cashed in on the new royal arrival by betting on gender and name of the heir to the throne.
