Lassana Bathily honoured with French citizenship for heroic actions during terrorist raid

Bathily, aged 24 and a mali born immigrant residing in France was granted an honorary citizenship following his quick and heroic actions during a terrorist attack at a Kosher Super market. Reports state that he was in the store's underground stockroom when a gunman invaded the upper level of the building, killing four people. Bathily turned off the stockroom freezer and invited a group of shoppers to hide inside before escaping through a fire exit to speak to authorities about the attack. His efforts resulted in the operation to free 15 hostages and kill the gunman.

As he thanked those present during his citizenship ceremony, he added: "Long live liberty, long live friendship, long live solidarity and long live France."
